ENRICHING THE POOR

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. Our movement, Gerakan Tanah Air has been promising that we will enrich the Malays and other Malaysians if we get to form the Government after winning this 15th General Election.

2. Many doubt that we can. But look at the record of some of the GTA leaders. We inherited a poor country upon independence after British colonial rule.

3. We decided that we needed to industrialise to create jobs for our workers.

4. But we and our people had no money (capital), no know how about the manufacturing industries, no capable managers of big companies and finally no knowledge of the market.

5. We had only recently become independent.

6. We dislike foreign involvement in our economy.

7. It looked hopeless.

8. But we swallowed our pride and invited foreigners to invest in our country.

9. To succeed we offered tax free investment for a period.

10. We put in some of the required infrastructure.

11. We decided to be business friendly.

12. The investors came. A trickle at first. But the foreign investments grew and we became industrialised.

13. Today our export is 82% made up of manufactured goods. And not all of them are due to FDI (Foreign Direct Investments).

14. All countries are doing this now.

15. But the poor country we inherited has become richer.

16. Not quite a developed country.

17. Could have been.

18. But changes of the Government lead to policy changes.

19. If we win, we will find ways to enrich our country and our people.

20. If you still doubt our ability to enrich the poor, I will tell you more about how we did other impossible things to enrich our country and our people.
