TAHUN BARU

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. Selamat menyambut tahun baru 2017. Dalam bahasa Inggeris mereka berkata Happy New Year.

NEW YEAR

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. On this good day I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

2. 2016 had not been a very happy year for us in Malaysia. But the whole world had not had a good year either.

3. I will not repeat the litany of events which made 2016 a bad year.

4. But I note that we still see people killing people. We still see natural disasters occurring more frequently and more severely all over the world.

5. We cannot assume that worse things would not happen in the New Year.

6. We are also experiencing things in our own country which we thought could never have happened.

7. Still we must be thankful that the scale of the natural disasters are at least less severe than those in other countries.

8. But despite all these we can still resolve to do something good in the New Year.

9. Yes we did not keep our previous year’s resolution long. But this time we must resolve to keep our resolution longer. Maybe into the first quarter or the second even if not for the whole year.

10. I have resolved to keep my resolution longer.

BR1M

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M

Hentikan pemberian wang melalui parti Kerajaan.

BR1M

1. My condemnation of BR1M as a form of corruption seems to upset and anger some people.

2. I still maintain that it is a form of bribe. This is made clear by the comment of a recipient from the kampung.

3. He said, “I will support Najib because he gave me money. Mahathir did not give me money”.

4. BR1M is from Government money. It is obviously intended to get people to vote for the Government party in the 13th General Election because the BN manifesto for that election promises bigger BR1M when the Government party wins. Explicitly it is about buying the vote of the electorate.

5. If it is not meant to pay for the vote in the election, it should not be mentioned in the BN manifesto.

6. Any Government in any country has an obligation to look after the poor. The dole is given to ease the difficulties of unemployed people. Financial aid is given to the poor but not as supplement to their income.

7. But BR1M is said to be given to 7 million people with incomes of less than RM3,000 per month. That means that a person with income of RM36,000 per year would also get RM500 a year. It is not a meaningful relief for such people.

8. But people with no income or income of less than RM500 per month or RM6000 per year might feel an additional RM500 per year quite welcome. It’s not much but it will buy a few items of food.

9. Now of course the amount is to be increased to RM1,200 a year, or RM100 per month. It is still not much but it is okay. But for someone earning RM3,000 per month it is still peanuts.

10. The money is to be disbursed through UMNO. Obviously it is an attempt at gaining popularity for UMNO. That is political. It is bribery especially if disbursed near an election. It is bribery if the amount is increased and included in the party manifesto.

11. It will not be bribery if the money is disbursed through Government officers or through all members of Parliament irrespective of parties.

12. But this support is nullified by the GST and withdrawal of various subsidies. The cost of living has shot up by more than the amount of BR1M. In fact for many, the GST takes away more from their income than is compensated by BR1M.

13. Now the Ringgit is devalued by more than 1 Ringgit in terms of purchasing power. So a person earning RM500 per month today gets only about RM355 worth of purchasing power. The loss of purchasing power due to the devalued Ringgit and increase in cost of living actually means that BR1M is worth much less than the amount, even if the BR1M is increased to RM1,200. Only the hard core poor will appreciate BR1M.

14. The Government is not clear about the cut–off point. Is it RM3,000 per month or less. If less then it cannot be that 7 million people are entitled to receiving BR1M. We pride ourselves in having reduced poverty to below 1% hard core and 0.6% below poverty line.

15. The 0.6% below poverty line figure, represents a total number of 40,000 households (according to statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia). It would be far less if we count only working adults. We need to help these people only, but with more than RM1,200 per annum.

16. Recently people eligible for BR1M have been threatened that if they attend rallies by opposition parties they will not be entitled to BR1M. If this does not show that BR1M is meant to bribe people, I don’t know what is meant by bribery.

17. BR1M tends to make people dependent on the Government. It is known that some of the money did not reach the targeted people.

18. In Britain today unemployed people must do some work to earn the dole.

19. What we need in Malaysia is more jobs for the poor to earn better income. For this we must learn to do without foreign workers.

20. When people are unable to work because of disability, substantial financial support should be given to them.

21. Beyond that the Government should focus on revaluation of the currency and strengthening the economy. The people were definitely better off before when BR1M was not given.

22. BR1M is not only a form of corruption but it corrupts the minds of the people.

DEMOCRACY

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. Most newly independent countries chose democracy as their political system. They believe fondly that they would get good Governments as the people would choose the leaders to rule their countries. The people must surely choose good leaders.

2. However many now rue the day they chose democracy. Studies have shown that the system is very open to abuse and the wrong people may be elected who will not only abuse the power conferred on them, but who are able to stay in power for decades. Effectively these leaders would become dictators.

3. What usually happens is that once these elected leaders gain control of the machinery of Government, they would be able to manipulate elections so that they or their party would not be defeated.

4. Changing the boundaries of constituencies is one way. Control over the counting of votes offers many ways of cheating. Voting slips can always be shuffled, added or lost. The identity of the voters may be changed so voting twice or three times at different voting stations can be engineered.

5. Voters may be moved from strongholds to weak constituencies. The marking with so-called indelible black ink can be washed out.

6. Then of course the voters can be corrupted with money or gifts.

7. The opportunities for the Government Party to cheat is far greater as it controls the whole voting machinery. The staff would usually be recruited from serving Government staff. They may be bribed or threatened with some kind of punishment.

8. It is noteworthy that when the counting is repeated, the results are never the same. If may be human error or it may be deliberate. The Government party has the possibility of changing the results despite there being observers from the opposition.

9. Sometimes foreign observers are invited to oversee the election process. They may find something wrong. But unless the cheating is blatant, their reports are not likely to be respected.

10. Some countries have adopted electronic voting. Perhaps they are less open to fraud and manipulation. But they are not fool proof.

11. We are seeing in many new countries the incumbent rejecting the results if he loses. There may be riots and violence when this happens. This would give excuses for the Government to call in the military or the military would actually take over and form the Government. Once this happens the people can kiss good bye to democracy.

12. Political parties by themselves cannot seize power. But if the military or the police are prepared to back the dictator, then the seizure of power by a political leader would be successful.

13. In one country a dictator lost because the armed forces and the police which were backing him switched sides. The dictator was overthrown. But where only the military leaders did this, the police may find much to be gained by backing the dictator. The switch is unlikely, to happen. There can be prolonged violence.

14. Obviously a democracy is not a guarantee for good governance. It works in most of the western countries because of the culture of their people. They are much more mature and experienced. They know the price they and the whole country would have to pay if they choose the wrong person to lead. But as we all know even the seasoned democrats can make mistakes.

15. The culture of corruption is not as rampant in these countries. The separation of power between the legislative, the executive and the judiciary is respected and observed. The wrongdoers in any of the institutions cannot hope to get away with their misdeeds.

16. But in the young democracies, disregard for the essential elements of democracy is the norm rather than the exception. It is not unusual for the chief executive of the Government to control all three institutions through corruption or other means.

17. Democracy is a great system but it is not perfect. If the people do not assert their right it does not take much for a democracy to become a kleptocracy; a Government by crooks.

KLEPTOCRATIC BY ASSOCIATION

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. One of the amazing things happening in Malaysia today is the willingness of certain people, educated and knowledgeable, to kowtow to Najib, to even kiss his hands as their anointed leader, democratically elected.

2. They must know that there are ample evidence that Najib had stolen money in his personal accounts at the bank, that the Dept. of Justice of America had reported that he (Malaysian Official 1 – identified by his own minister, Abdul Rahman Dahlan, as the Prime Minister) is involved in massive fraud involving money belonging to the Malaysian people, that his stepson Riza Aziz and his bosom pal Jho Low were involved in money laundering in the U.S., money belonging to 1MDB.

3. They know all this and more. But they continue to accept him as their leader, crowding around him to shake and kiss his hand. Even the highest elites stood by him.

4. In other countries for even less evidence of abusing power and corruption, leaders, including those from the same party, have taken action, if not to overthrow but at least to suspend the leader while investigations are being carried out as to the truth of the charges levelled. But in Malaysia people including elected leaders of the parties in the coalition Government and very very important people are still supporting Najib’s administration and premiership.

5. When asked, a few aver that although there are charges of corruption and massive fraud levelled at him, in the country and throughout the world, he has not been convicted on such charges. Until he is found guilty they would continue to regard him as their legitimate leader.

6. This excuse is untenable because they know very well that the IGP and the Attorney General are openly covering up his criminal acts and preventing them from being heard in a court of law.

7. Thus when a report is made against him, the person reporting is called up by the police and subsequently detained together with his lawyer, charging them as terrorist and saboteurs of the economy.

8. When the Central Bank, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission submitted reports on Najib, the Attorney General declared that there is no ground (in the reports) for charging Najib with any wrongdoing.

9. The A.G. had clearly usurped the role of the courts by passing his own judgement. He has become both prosecutor and judge.

10. Additionally reports on 1MDB were placed under the Official Secrets Act, thus not only denying public access to the reports but actually making any reference to the reports a breach of the OSA, and possible charges under that act.

11. The A.G. again going beyond his jurisdiction, instructed that no more investigation be made on matters relating to 1MDB and other possible wrongdoings by Najib. He even went back on his promise to cooperate with the Swiss public prosecutor.

12. The Auditor-General upon instruction by Najib to audit the 1MDB so as to prove that nothing wrong was done by it, came up with a report which was submitted to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.

13. Again the A.G. classified the Auditor-General’s report as official secret so that even members of PAC may not refer to it.

14. All these actions by the IGP and the Attorney-General served to prevent Najib’s wrongdoing from being heard in a court of law.

15. That being the case there is no way for Najib to be found guilty even if the whole world regard him as guilty.

16. His toadying supporters, especially from UMNO, MCA and MIC as well as the members of Parliament from Sabah and Sarawak cannot use the “not guilty” excuse for continuing to kiss Najib’s soiled hand. They know he is guilty. And by association they are equally guilty.

17. They really should be ashamed of themselves for propping up a corrupt leader when they can easily bring him down through their votes in parliament.

18. Truly they have betrayed the rakyat who elected them to rule in accordance with the laws of the country and democracy. They are now a part of a Kleptocracy, a Government by crooks and the corrupt.

RETIREMENT

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. Some people seem to be annoyed that a 90+ man is not doing the natural thing for people of 90 i.e. rest, play with grandchildren and prepare for the next world.

2. Yes, I am not doing the right thing for a ninety year old. It is not always my choice. I am responding to the appeals by numerous groups of Malaysian people for me to do “something”.

3. Very early after Najib took over the premiership a lot of people, mainly Malays but also non-Malays seemed to be unhappy with Najib’s leadership and direction. Small businesses and contractors had to fold up because they were unable to compete.

4. Yes, he was doing away with the alleged cronyism by me but they claim his cronyism is working against them. The private sector could not be penetrated by them. They needed Government’s positive discrimination.

5. When Najib did away with affirmative action of the NEP they lost everything. And they came to appeal to me.

6. Other groups were not happy with his economic policies, his 1Malaysia slogan, his foreign policies etc. They all came to ask me to “do something”.

7. I did. I conveyed their criticisms to Najib. He did not respond at all.

8. Then came the 1MDB affair. They pointed to all the wrongdoings that Najib did e.g. borrowed 42 billion Ringgit at high interest and 10% commission, failed to do due diligence when investing billions, kept money in dubious places, being too close to Jho Low, a total outsider etc.

9. By then I felt that something must be done to stop Najib. The country was losing lots of money. I informed Najib I could not support him any longer. Then I decided to resign from UMNO.

10. Now it is no longer about people urging me to do something. Now I feel a need to stop Najib from further damaging the country.

11. To cut a long story short, I found that the rule of law has been nullified by Najib. The IGP and the AG protect him from due process. Even Parliament has been rendered toothless, incapable of representing the views of the people who elected the members and totally incapable of having a vote of non-confidence against Najib’s administration.

12. Najib has not been deterred by the open accusation that he had stolen public money. He is continuing with his disastrous line of action. He is borrowing even more money despite not being able to service and repay the 42 billion Ringgit he had borrowed for 1MDB.

13. He is now borrowing 55 billion Ringgit for the East Coast Railway, and another 50 billion for the high-speed train. He is now going to build the Pan-Borneo Highway costing 16 billion when it is known that the Government cannot meet the budgeted expenses for all the Ministries.

14. The country must certainly become bankrupt because there is no way we can pay this huge debt. Alternatively we will have to sell all our assets to raise the money.

15. Already we are seeing some of our most valuable assets being sold. The TRX and Bandar Malaysia, Sungai Besi are two of the most valuable. But we will have to sell land for the East Coast Railway. The sale of Edra is an example.

16. With all these things happening it is hard for a ninety year old citizen just to sit still and play with grandchildren. Yes I am preparing for the Akhirat but Allah be praised, I still have time on my hand to do other things. And the other things I can do is to lend some ideas on preventing the damages that is being done to the country by Najib.

17. So this old man will continue to contribute to the campaign to change the government of Malaysia.

NAJIB PINJAM LAGI

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M

PEMBATALAN

Sekian.

Terima Kasih.

ASSOCIATING WITH THIEVES

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. The MCA President has expressed his disgust at what he calls the lack of principle on the part of DAP.

2. He seems to think that DAP’s working together with me is all wrong.

3. But MCA’s working together with a known kleptocrat who has stolen billions of Ringgit is the worst example of a lack of principle. Or is the MCA unaware of what Najib has done to UMNO, BN and the nation. If he is not, I would like to tell him that under Najib Malaysia has been classified as one of the ten most corrupt country in the world.

4. The American Dept. of Justice has reported that Najib, who is Malaysian Official 1 (as confirmed by Cabinet Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan), has stolen billions of Ringgit of the Malaysian people’s money, and 2.6 billion Ringgit of this is in Najib’s personal bank account. Of course the MCA thinks this is okay. That is the MCA’s principle which it must cling to. It must be proud that it is supporting Najib who is involved in the world’s biggest fund case as alleged by the Department of Justice.

5. Now Najib considers the contest is between UMNO and DAP. This means Najib believes in racism because to him Malaysian politics is about Malays versus Chinese. Towards that end he has redrawn constitutional boundaries to separate Malays from Chinese.

6. Perhaps this accords with MCA as an ethnic Chinese Party. DAP is a multi-racial party which supports all the provisions of the Malaysian Constitution, namely
I. The monarchical system
II. Malay Special rights
III. Malay is the national language
IV. Islam is the official religion of the country.

7. Accordingly the DAP celebration of its 50th anniversary was conducted completely in the national language.

8. The DAP Secretary General categorically stated in his speech that DAP had never asked to have a Chinese Prime Minister in answer to Najib’s claim that if the DAP wins the next election Kit Siang would be P.M. DAP’s choice is Anwar Ibrahim, a non-Chinese.

9. MCA obviously supports Najib’s racist play by saying that if UMNO loses to DAP, there would be a Chinese as PM., or maybe MCA just wants to bodek Najib, principle be damned.

10. MCA should not talk about principle as it is just opportunistic. It is not the MCA of Tun Tan Cheng Lock. It is just an appendage of Najib’s racist UMNO now.

11. I am with DAP and the other opposition parties because I don’t want to be associated with Najib and his kleptocratic government. Until he can prove beyond reasonable doubt he did not steal 1MDB money, I will still say he has stolen money from the people of Malaysia.

12. For MCA everything that Najib has done is okay. So stay with him. And that means MCA has no principle. DAP has upheld its principle to have clean election, to have democracy and to fight for a clean Government. MCA is as kleptocratic as Najib.

13. Shame on you MCA.

KERAKYATAN

blogtunm.blogspot.com Tun M
1. Menteri Besar Johor berkata bahawa tuduhan saya bahawa 700,000 orang asing akan mendapat kerakyatan Malaysia tidak munasabah.

Apakata kalau mereka tuntut kerakyatan Malaysia.

18. Apakata kalau senyap-senyap mereka diberi IC Malaysia sebelum PRU 14.

19. Mustahil! Tidak. Najib terdesak.

20. Melesapkan duit Kerajaan (duit rakyat) berbillion Ringgit baginya tiada masalah. Apabila Presiden Amerika, dihadapan Najib, menyindir tentang penipuan yang dilakukan olehnya, senyumannya kekal dibibir. Tak ada berasa malu sedikit pun.
